In the few clips I've seen, Robin Thicke looks like he's trying not to be there. Made me wonder if she raunched it up from what they rehearsed. Not because it was overtly sexual - the video clearly didn't bug him - but because it was terrible, and I was embarrassed for her, and embarrassed full stop that it exists.

There's nothing like paying ridiculous amounts of money to look like you're wearing especially hideous braces.

This is the trashiest Katy Perry has ever looked. Just awful. Grills are the stupidest invention of all time. OF. ALL. TIME. They look stupid on absolutely everyone, but especially on Katy Perry. And that dress...*vomits*

You can pry my rolo candy wrapper grill from my cold dead gums. I still think that was the best party idea I ever had.

It's not so much as a "defenseless young girl" but as a stupid barely twenty something. When it's something THIS scale, you have to say, "where are the people who are being paid to control this?"

*sees grills*

Yeah, the Thicke thing was weird. It was like they were trying to find something to criticize about the performance that wasn't the sexual nature, but rather than latch on and discuss the serious issue of cultural appropriation they kind of floundered into blaming Robin Thicke.

The worst part is how unsexy the selling of sex has become. Just. So. Played.

I don't think that anyone's suggesting that he's the svengali to her naif. Far from it. It's pretty clear that it's Miley choice. But we're allowed to be disappointed in that choice.

I have no clue why he agreed to this shit, so that's one strike against him, but yeah, that seemed to be Miley's Shit Show all the way, and she seems to really want to be Miss Desperation Appropriation 2013, and I can't see any evidence that he had much to do with anything before him strolling out to lazily deliver a

And what exactly was he supposed to do? Stop her mid performance and go, "stop it young lady." Then we would be criticizing him for both slut shaming and infantalizing her. I don't think it was choregraphed and she was supposed to be acting around him, like the girls in the video. In the few shots mtv showed of her

Mhmmm. It's a sad day when we have to defend Beetledouche. But I don't think he did anything wrong here, well aside from accepting the offer to sing with her.

I was going to post to say "Thicke was a wallflower last night, completely unremarkable, unmemorable and talentless, and did a whole lot of nothing," and then you were much more eloquent about it than I was, so, boom.

Yes. It's ok to say if the performance was terrible if the performance is terrible. She didn't sing well, didn't dance well, and just generally looked awful with her tongue hanging out of her mouth and fondling herself and others with that damn foam finger.

Yeah, I've seen a few comments say something like "Well Robin Thicke should take responsibility because he's a thirty-something y.o. married man grinding up on a 20 y.o. girl." Umm well 1. have you not seen his Blurred Lines video? He obviously doesn't care. 2. All of a sudden Miley is a girl? She's a woman, no?

She's like that college dorm mate you had who started smoking dope and within a month everything they said was about how much more open-minded it made you, and it's totally put them in touch with their shamanic creativity, and if only everyone did it we wouldn't have so many uptight squares starting wars and that.

I LOVE this song. Not even in an ironc way.

Is that Billie Piper??? I had no idea she could sing and dance - and 100x better than Cyrus!!!!

Am I the only person who thinks it would be helpful to stop defining racial boundaries in terms of clothing and dance moves and fingernails? Saying "these clothes are for black people," "these dance moves are for black people," "this manicure is for black people" is far more cringe-inducing than a pop star with bad
