Personally, I thought the 1980 interpretation was pretty spot on with production design, sets, characters etc in terms of keeping the essence of Flash Gordon. So to hear him say “it will be nothing like any version of Flash Gordon you’ve seen” makes me ponder a tad...

I was still expecting to see an Imperial Probe Droid when Finn was panting so heavily after he’d clambered free of the TIE wreckage...after all, such a big deal was made when one fan identified the noise of such a droid in the background after the first trailer...
