I think you’re completely correct about it fundamentally feeling like a Star Wars movie, and there were -as you say - some great things and some terrible things. However, the latter were quite significant for me...so many and of such size, that it did ultimately affect my enjoyment of the movie. In short, I expected

This montage was used to advertise a season Bond movies on Sky TV in the UK last year...and it’s still one of my favourites...

I have no issue with product placement in the Bond movies; there are billboards in real life, so it doesn’t hurt to see one in the movie. There are posters at train stations...and so on. Totally agree with you, best uniforms ever. I put the time, effort and money into having one made (story of it is here http://goo.gl/FEoLrk) but found out later the practical downside of a “maroon monster” is that it’s very hot to wear at conventions.
