Well for one hidden powers aren't the same thing as IVs. Two, Smogon is awesome, but it's also its own ecosystem. The tiers and guides there aren't in any way officially connected with Nintendo or Game Freak. As such they don't reflect actual tournaments.

Hacking has been generally looked at as a necessary evil, because breeding near-perfect Pokémon was far too random and time-consuming.

I disagree with this but what the hell do you define as a gaming era? Does that imply this is mostly about console games? Because Blizzard, Valve, Gearbox and more recently Riot have made better trailers in my opinion.
