The Taco is a good truck. Super reliable and it works fine for most people. Great resale value too, of course. But it screams of cost cutting by Toyota. Disc brakes, C-channel frame, plastic bed etc.

Traditionally at least, diesels had fewer electronics which are susceptible to damage from water since the engines and accessories were much simpler. So if you needed to cross a river, you would want to be in a diesel. You probably would have one anyway if you were in Africa, S. America, or Australia.
