Just thought of this too: The only way a Wrangler makes sense to me is in base (cheap) configurations. If I was going to spend around $40k of a 4x4, I would get a 4Runner or used Land Cruiser.

It’s cheaper, should get better MPG than the V6, and has better low end torque than the V6. The diesel will be great, but also more expensive (see: RAM and Grand Cherokee). I suppose there might be some room to tune it too.
Viral marketing for Rubber 2?
Yep you’re right. Not sure where I got the Pentastar idea. Maybe some other FCA engine?
Nah, you made the right choice anyway if capability is an important factor; the ZR2 kills the Taco in off-road cred. I generally respect Toyota (I’d love a 4Runner or Land Cruiser), but I have a bit of a prejudice against the Taco (and not just because I have a Nissan Frontier).
Oh yeah, I’m sure the diesel will be great, but it’ll be an expensive option (similar to the Grand Cherokee and RAM). And it will get good MPGS, but it would never be worth the total costs to own just becasue of that. That said, if a person planned to tow often with their 4door, that would be the easy choice.
The diesel will be a 3.0L. I’ll take the base 2.0L 4 cyl gas engine, which yeah, I think is Pentastar based. I’m guessing the turbo will give good low torque and the best MPGs (real world has yet to be seen).
Yep, I’ll agree with the 4Runner also being a great buy and fiscally, a better buy than the Wrangler. I don’t know if the insurance costs are significantly different. The Raptor used to be in the discussion, but they’ve gotten so much more expensive (leaving room for my pick, the ZR2).
I’m with you (although I’d be interested in the 8spd). Unless you’re rock crawling often, go for a T4R, ZR2, or FJC. And if you need that open top experience, get a Murano CrossCab or an Evoque Convertible :)
100% agree. But I guess it’s for those people mentioned in the article that have Wrangler tattoos.
Sport with the 2.0l and 8spd.
So in that respect, they are in fact one of the best possible cars to buy new, (this side of a limited Porsche or Ferrari), right?
And a decked out Rubi Unlimited will be near $50k.
Yep. Came to call the Lambo “cute”.
Nice pics, K.
That’s a good setting.
Yeah, but that’s what the article asked for. I made a compromise on the haiku format.
Nah, T2 is the best action movie ever. Fur Road was cool though.
That was really good
You’re right, but eh, they’re part of the same series. Close enough.
