I think part of the hate for gambits is that you unlock the different parts of them bit by bit, and your total commands are limited at the start, and so at the beginning you are still sort of stuck micromanaging or relying on the AI to simply auto-attack. This is exactly what I was going to say. It’s hilarious that Jason is hailing the gambit system as a positive when I distinctly remember everybody making fun of this game for having it back when it came out. “The game plays itself!” or something similarly reductive.

Except it’s NOT a single-player MMO. It just seems that way until you really start playing around with the Gambit system and coming up with creative combinations to destroy enemies.
