I can't really refute any arguments to things that I haven't said at all.

If you are yet another who is thinking I am saying sexism doesn't exist, you honestly haven't been paying attention.
You go on thinking that.
Haha, that's funny. Do you think I was dismissing sexism as a legitimate concern?
Oh, I definitely agree. There is an insidiousness to objectification that isn't immediately noticeable, and this type of problem affects all people - men, women, transsexuals, homosexuals, blacks, Asians - etc. Of course, there is nothing wrong with saying that "whoa okay, women don't really look like that so don't…
but can you see why kids love cinnamon toast crunch?
Okay, that made me laugh way too hard. I'll have a six pack by tomorrow. Thanks for that!
at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I agree. There should be a more equal division of stuff like this for media mass consumption. However, the solution isn't to antagonize people who do consume currently existing media. That never leads anywhere good, IMO.
I agree, and in this instance, I would say that the solution is not to decry what is already there, but to push for better portrayals. This is something I make a point of doing, regardless of gender, race, or sexuality.
Well, they probably should have marketed it a bit more with elf and put two more characters (one male and one female) to kind of even things out then.
So it's morally okay for men to be objectified but not women because women have it worse in the media.
Oh, they're not. And I agree on this point. Inequity in the media is a VERY REAL thing. I am all too aware (being an Asian guy, I'm bottom rung when it comes to media representation).
Well, in that case, I agree. I kind oslowish they had another character that was like the elf, though. More realistically proportioned and still able to kick ass. There'd be much less complaints then.
But that isn't the argument people are making. That may be the position you have, and I agree! But for the majority it's about the sex thing.
Just because it isn't the norm doesn't mean it's not the same. Making an exception for one work but not another due to your own biases is not a bit hypocritical, it's VERY hypocritical.
Why is Free! okay but not this?
Ah, but there's the rub, isn't it? At what point is the line crossed?
I'm not going to argue about media inequities. I am very well aware of things like that (being an Asian guy, I'm pretty much bottom rung when it comes to media portrayal).
The point of my post was never to say "well men are sexualized just as much as women in the media." There are multiple imbalances in the media I am VERY well aware of (I can't tell you how exasperated I was, as an Asian guy, by stuff like Dragonball Evolution, The Last Airbender, and 21); the point I was trying to…
I know how you feel dude, and I agree, but your body issues? Go out and change that! Hit the gym! Hair thinning? Shave your head! Guys can pull off the shaved head look and seem badass! I used to sit on my ass all day and complain about girls not finding me attractive, but one day I looked at myself in the mirror and…
