What's more, nobody talks about anything except Pokémon. The entire world feels one-note, like an SNL skit that lasts 30 hours too long. People don't seem to live for anything beyond Pokémon hunting, capturing, and battling. It feels so... shallow.

I've never played it. I thought it looked interesting, so I looked up some info about it and that's how I learned it was made with RPG Maker XP.
I understand its Alpha footage, but with what we've seen and the modest goal I can't see them making a bunch of new assets for a more unique aesthetic. Of course I would love to be proven wrong and will follow its progress occasionally to see how it turns out.
Her design is way to unique to be a random NPC! :P
I don't think I'd mind living in Shevat from Xenogears—the flying city in which everyone just chills and tinkers with gears all the time. Then again, Shevat gets blown up too. This question is hard.
Boring is a bit of a strong word. The game certainly has a very relaxed pace and atmosphere, but it's very intentionally made this way to support the games strengths and it does an exceptional job at emphasizing those strengths, so its not hard to see how people could be excited about it.
Its not really very raunchy the trailers really over blow the sexual aspects the worst you'll see is already in the trailers.
I think this is appropriate:
Or the Ys series. ;)
The image shrunk so I guess I'll post a link:

The game play really does look like a NIS version of Ys. Hopefully they'll work out these kinks when they develop future titles, because it seems to be a pretty solid effort for NIS' first ARPG and fully 3D game.
You know I hear this a lot and I can understand not wanting to continue something you find boring, but I don't really like the idea that something not being exciting to not be good. Trails in the Sky is very different type of RPG at least narrative wise, but I feel its an excellent one playing on its own strengths.…
One of the most interesting RPGs in the modern era has one of the most boring titles imaginable: The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is far less generic than it sounds, I promise. It's quite lovely, in fact. There are airships and plot twists and funny little moments crafted quite well by the localization team at…
I've been following this NIS title for a while now and I'm pretty happy to see a new IP for NIS to be selling well. Especially considering it seems to be NIS creating an Ys like Action RPG.
A 3 disk soundtrack full of this:
You see that implies that people enjoy Tomoko's misery, but that's not what series is trying to get across. Watamote isn't just a comedy it definitely teeters between the thin line between tragedy and comedy. I certainly didn't laugh at any of the scenes that you pointed out.
The series isn't making light of her…

Probably Silver Will from Trails in the Sky:
