I use a debit card, and I live outside of the US. Amazon payments on KS works just fine for me. They require a 'visa'. Whether it's debit or credit doesn't actually matter.

The problem is, people (potential backers) demand it. They won't use a credit or debit card, and insist on doing things through paypal. Maybe not the majority, but certainly a large group as the amount going through paypal shows. The people running these projects feel their hands are pretty much tied.

The problem here is, that paypal think they are somehow involved. They aren't. They are merely a device to transfer funds. They need to remember that instead of dressing up clearly nefarious business practices as 'concern'.
