Weird hill for him to die on, but at least he’ll be dead I guess.

I don’t think anyone expects the PAX operators to be able to fully police every tangential activity happening around the conference. To your point, that’s not reasonable or even really possible. But, in my opinion, they should take a stronger position directly with the company who DID throw the party. Someone gets…
The elephant in the room is that “cultural change” requires men in the industry to take this shit seriously and take action to stop it - and by taking action, that means shutting bad behavior down, not just sitting back and pinkie-swearing to “take it seriously” if a woman complains. Imagine if gaming companies…
“PAX has a zero tolerance policy”
I’m sure it’s tough enough being a woman going about your normal day without guys just assuming you’re out looking to be flirted with or picked up, so I can’t even imagine what it must be like at something like a gaming convention. My wife couldn’t even shop at Goodwill a few months back without some dude who worked…
I did the same after, and noticed the curse wasn’t due to jealousy (nor was it cast by Aphrodite either)
I was a very early “online” gamer in the 90s, on text-based MUDs, using Kali IPX emulators for Doom netplay, etc. I figured that was where gaming was going, and I wouldn’t look back. The late 9os were an exciting time.
In my experience growing up in toxic men’s spaces where I wished I didn’t have to be, it’s the hypocrisy I find the most relentless disappointment. They’ll happily subject others to the most loathsome tortures, but if one should poke them back even slightly or object, it is met with absurd self-righteous condemnation.
Once again, there’s this urge to jump to AI because it can do SOMETHING, but there’s no indication that it can really do it GOOD or RIGHT or CORRECTLY.
I was a bit worried his rebellion was just lipservice and he’d toe the party line of the Spider Society and I’m so glad I was wrong. Hobie fucking ruled. I love how much of an instigator he was for Miles’s story.
Something I really appreciated that this doesn’t touch on is how it eschews the obligatory antagonism between him and Miles over the potential love triangle. Miles starts out a little pressed but Hobie is simply too cool for it to faze him, and that ease pretty quickly gets the better of Miles as well.
Honestly I always like a punk character but Spider-Punk really was the perfect take I’ve seen on a punk character in a long while. I really hope they use him more often going forward because he was just in a class of his own.
Still makes me chuckle that the Epic Game Store doesn’t actually have any Epic games released before Fortnite.
It’s foolish, but I hold out hope that someday they’ll get ahold of Dude Huge and do a proper remake of the original Unreal and as a longshot, a complete redo of Unreal II.
At least the community has set up OpenSpy trackers (for 2K4 at least), so it’s not too hard to find some servers. I hate that Epic won’t put out a new UT as I really have no desire to play Fortnite & I used to be kinda good at that shooting biz....
I don’t actually mind Fortnite as a game/cultural Thing, but I’ll always resent it for being the reason Epic cancelled UT 2018
I’m lucky enough that it’s not too bad of a day-to-day worry if I’m just at home, at least - most straight people assume straightness as default and the way I like to keep my appearance is pretty much within gender norms for guys, so if I’m on my own, most people don’t even clock me as gay. But out with friends or my…
I am surprised they haven’t made a reference to the 90s series yet. They snuck a Spectacular Spider-Man clip in there, but no 90s animated Spidey. Maybe it's a rights thing?
100%. You said everything I wanted to say better than I ever could have said it.
It’s not just the US, almost everywhere in the world it seems like steps are being taken backwards (the changes in US abortion legislation has opened the gates for religious intervention of women’s rights in other countries as well, for example) and that’s a scary idea we need to remember: that we can always go back…
