it’s a pretty pervasive mindset. like the guy who loves to talk about how he’s “worked hard for everything he has.” Then you find out his parents paid for university, his father got him an “in” at the company he works for, he didn’t move out until 30, etc. etc. etc.

Never ever having to face the gut wrenching fear of losing ones home, going hungry or watching ones kids go hungry provides a certain cushion for their emotions. A flattening of effect and affect, if you will, and interrupts the empathetic response.

You know what’s weird? When this all came out, you didn’t see a Thin Chalk Line of teachers standing behind her. I wonder if that’s because you can belong to a union and support your fellow union members and still be horrified when someone within your ranks commits a crime. So weird. 

I thought the conversation had changed but every other headline I saw about this, including CNN, used words like “affair” and “relationship” instead of rape. Sickening and so disappointing.

This whole case was train-wreck TV at it finest back then, and I can’t believe the access they both gave the media when it came out. They did interviews together, they talked about how in love they were....it’s unbelievable.
