“Kanye has been planning this for years”
The case count is on the rise again, but I think it’s due to things opening up and people being less careful. It’s actually a huge relief that the protests didn’t cause a big rise in cases. I was so sure they would.
Came here to say this. I’m in the Twin Cities, and I’ve been to a number of the protests here. Almost everybody is wearing masks and being as distant as possible. With George Floyd, this was the epicenter of the current protests, and guess what? We seem to have more or less leveled off in terms of covid cases.
It’s this weird idea that being fair and neutral means pretending both sides have a point. If there’s no evidence that the protests led to a spike (and there isn’t), then Dr Fauci should not feel compelled to pretend that they did.
A few hundred thousand protestors, outdoors, mostly with masks.
She wasn’t “explaining” anything. Just vomiting up the garbage she consumed.
Having participated in a number of BLM/Pride things in NYC, I can tell you 99.99% of the people I was nearby wore masks and some attendees were walking around distributing hand sanitizer. When they could, people kept some distance and tried to avoid body contact.
Also - if you look at where cases are increasing in the…
I mean, we sure as shit had protests and marches in Massachusetts. We also have prolific mask useage, increased testing for people who were at protests, and...the lowest transmission rates in the country. We had our first day with no Covid related deaths yesterday. Hm. I wonder what we’ve been doing differently than…
“Instead, point out how boring it is to think people should be punished if they don’t conform. How tedious it is to think that the contours of your own thought enclose all that is worth knowing. How embarrassing it is to be cruel.”
Every time I read another one of these I feel like some dude out there is saying to himself ‘and that’s why women shouldn’t run shit.’
I’ve only ever gotten a single speeding ticket in my life. The week before I was pulled over I was coming out of my gym late at night and this cop comes up to me in uniform and tells me how he sees me every night and I look so good and fit, and would I like to go out with him. I told him I was married and his…
Thank you so much for writing this. I know the first things the police unions are going to say about defunding is “who will protect your women?”
Then when we’re dead, we’re so amazing, wholesome, maternal, feminine, doting, generous, soft, obiedient, and kind. We’re a blank canvass for whatever anyone wants!
Meanwhile, HR 1585 reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act of 1994 that is needed to pass to re-appropriate funds for it, and was passed by The House in March 2019, is STILL sitting un-voted on in the Senate with a 3% chance of proceeding - much less getting to Trump’s desk for his signature too.
this has been a super triggering week for me, encountering “but what about rape?” as a counter to defunding, over and over and over again. My rapist is a police officer in my city, and I have barely talked about it before this week, but now I’ve been sharing it every fucking time this bullshit take comes up.
THIS. My partner works as a counselor for victims of DV. The police response routinely results in cases that are “upside down”, in which the the victim is arrested as the aggressor because see their response to trauma as “irrational behavior”. It’s some real bullshit.
Shitty cops are shitty across time. It’s rarely a one-off. The other cops who don’t actively do shitty things are enablers and are therefore just as shitty.
Up where I am, there was a front page headline “Police Join Protestors in March for Racial Justice.” Then you read the article: “When asked what changes people might expect, the local police chief said ‘We do not anticipate changing any of our policies’.”
