For my high school graduation gift my mom gave me a book called “Careers without college,” because she didn’t really believe in education. Then in the middle of my junior year she wanted me to drop out because I “hadn’t suffered enough...”

Depends on the part of the state. I taught high school social studies in one of the blue bits and it was fine except for the occasional dickwad progeny. I didn’t know what to do when I showed a pie chart of world religions and one of the kids said he “didn’t believe” that the majority of the world wasn’t Christian.…

Certain evangelicals instruct such protest as a way for young people to fight the good fight (against science/book learnin’). They see themselves as heroes. These are the same families that lose their shit when their precious young snowflakes are told they can’t use the bible as a primary source.
