In my opinion, that is the WORST movie! I never liked it growing up, and my sister compounded it by watching the tv marathons where they show it over and over...and she still does every Christmas...so now it's pretty much the cinematic version of nails on chalkboard to me.

Just reading this made me tear up, and I put my doggy down months ago. It's just like dealing with the death of a human friend/family member, only a lot of people don't understand (although usually people that have pets do understand).

I despite A Christmas Story.... and my sister likes to watch it over and over and over again around Christmas :(

Well, the Santa Clause is on ABC Family right now, and I've had it on and only half-paid attention to it...

I forgot about that one! I saw that a few years ago... I wonder if I can find it online...

Definitely open to any wintry holiday movie. I have seen The Holiday (a long time ago, in the theater), and I did like it.

I'm not familiar with Sertraline, but it sounds like you need to either up your dosage, add another medication, or switch entirely. Wellbutrin is one med that seems to give you some motivation and energy. That's what I'm on right now, but I think a combo of that and an SSRI works best for me.

I hear ya, I'm going to be boarding my kitties at a vet this Christmas. Usually, I prefer to have a cat-sitter, but because one has some health issues I feel its a safer option when I'm not there to monitor some really subtle behaviors. But it makes me sad, because I know they'll be unhappy.

I think their better... I don't remember my thoughts about The Other Boleyn Girl (I read it a long time ago, and saw the movie sometime later, which has clouded my memory of the book), but I was pretty disappointed with The Other Queen. However, I've read three of the Cousins War series, and like them a lot better

I actually have that one on DVD, and used to love it. But now I don't want to watch it all.. I watched it several times with my ex, and since...it just depresses me.

What's everyone's favorite Christmas/Winter Holidays movie?

I do... last week I asked about people's experience with light boxes... I have one, but still have dragged it out from the high shelves at the top of my closet. My exercise and cleaning have definitely declined (but that is also partially because this is a crazy-busy time of year and I've been sick).

Philippa Gregory's Cousins War series.

I'm watching Gilmore Girls, and then I want to watch a Christmas movie...I'm having trouble deciding which movie to watch though...

Well, yes and no. There was an actual St. Nicholas, but he has very little to do with the cult and mythology that was built around his name. All that's really now known about him was that he was a bishop in Lycia (modern Turkey), he was persecuted and imprisoned, and he attended the first Nicean council. However, his

Well Santa (and his precursor) Saint Nicholas, are based on Odin. So Santa Power=Odin Power!

Sometimes, it feels like the Red Wedding though...minus the beheadings.

I see what you are saying, and to a point I do agree—in the US, it is emphasized as a Christian holiday in the public sphere. However, to me, to call it a Christian holiday is giving in to the "Keep Christ in Christmas" fanatical Christians and their idea that they should own the holiday. I've been pagan before (and

I would add While You were Sleeping (one of the best rom-coms of all time, IMO). I'm in the mood for watching a Christmas movie tonight, but not sure what to watch... I recently watched Elf, and various cheesy ABC Family/Hallmark movies (mostly bc they were good to have in the background rather than actually watch).

No, there is a group of non-Christians that strongly believe that Christmas is a not a Christian (or not just a Christian) holiday: pagans. The date was picked by Christians to coincide with a pagan holiday, Saturnalia, which in turn coincided with a number of different cultural groups across the Roman Empire that
