I’m a Hyundai salesman and I’ll admit I haven’t been in a Santa Cruz that’s loaded down, but the unladen ride is fantastic. If there’s one thing I’ll brag about for Hyundai, it’s that they consistently nail the ride/handling balance, and the Santa Cruz is no exception. I'd happily drive one daily.

That’s correct. They actually did it with two, but one was destroyed in filming. So now there’s only one 2000GT convertible left in the world.

Toyota? As long as it’s a 2000GT, of course.

I actually own a MK7 GTI so I’m far from biased towards Honda here, but from the reviews I’ve read, apparently the Si actually handles better than the GTI, stock for stock. It shouldn’t be too surprising considering their 200-300lbs weight advantage.

Confession time: I sold someone a Santa Cruz SEL on Saturday with an $8k markup.

Gotta disagree here somewhat. I think the 987s, the Caymans specifically, actually look better and have aged terrifically. Yes, they’ve got a few awkward proportions and angles, but they come by that honestly. They were based on a car that was never intended to be a coupe and was thrown together with some hand-me-down

That’s not one gen to the next though. You skipped a whole generation in between that was actually pretty nice.

Those aren’t even different generations. Just different body styles of the same car.

He had a Shelby GT500 for a bit too, didn’t he?

This reminds me of when Sebastien Bourdais won 4 titles in Champ Car and publicly talked shit about F1 drivers, saying other than a few drivers on the grid, most were just pay drivers there to fill out the grid. If I remember correctly, he said he only had respect for a few drivers in the sport, saying Champ Car had

Fiat Is Also The Answer.

How’s the shipment on replacement hard tops going?

Considering there are at least 6 brands on that list which don’t even exist anymore, I’d say it’s pretty outdated.

Calling that thing a production car is like calling the space shuttle a passenger plane...

I work at a car dealer and we’re doing one of these promotions this weekend with a nice fat price on the front that’s thousands more than their car is worth even in this market.

Great for generating traffic, not so great for having happy customers when you show them a trade price 5k under their “offer” and then flip

It’s a significant update, but it’s still the same platform underneath.

The Neon, especially the first gens. Not only were they competitive compacts as commuter cars for the 90s, they were nice and light and had up to 150hp which was plenty at the time. You could even get an ACR package with a shorter final drive, sway bars, and some other goodies that made them autocross and track day

Uhhhh...the MK5 does have a 2.0 and has lots of potential, so I’m not sure where you’re getting that info. And the MK7s actually got lighter and actually weigh less than a MK5 or MK6.

That’s basically the same base price as a similarly-sized Kona Electric that has 258mi of range and 201hp. 2/3 the power and 2/5 the range for the same price seems like a great value proposition.

Yeah the base model is clearly one of those things they just have to snag a headline base price but won’t actually exist anywhere in the real world. Even if you go to the website and look at the non-Cruise or Sport models, the cheapest one is like 22k, and you have to kinda dig to find the 18k configuration.
