Drive one. It’s absolutely insane. The driving experience makes the Lamborghini Aventador feel like a mildly tuned Civic.

The turn signal stalks in a McLaren are made of aluminum. They have a few parts bin switches, but they’re sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
Not sure about the packets, but you missed the point of the funnel. The McLaren comes with one of those new-style fuel filler things that close with a springed door, and not a cap that you screw on. This is great for convenience and making sure owners don’t trigger check engine lights because they don’t screw the cap…

I used to deliver these cars to press for review. I was responsible for making sure the car was ready, mechanically sound, etc. I had to leave this gig before I drove a 675LT and I’m super jealous. Every time I see one, I have a sad.
That’s a good point, but I’d still prefer it to not be before the jump.
Could you guys stop giving up the meat of the videos in a .gif on the main page? The headline says something like ‘Check out a video of a guy doing this thing’ but I’ve seen it 3-5 times by the time I have the chance to click play.
Oh man I feel sorry for whoever was responsible for this. There’s that horrible moment at work when you send something and you want it back the moment you hit ‘go.’ That’s how I imagine this playing out.
Most McLaren mechanics I talked to said the nicest McLaren you’ll drive is the one with the most miles. These are drivers cars, and they were designed by very talented engineers with a long leash with the intent for them to be driven.
Your best bet is a McLaren dealer. Get on their good side and get invited to a test drive event or something. That said, most dealers are 100% focused on the bottom line. You could also just pester the McLaren staff at a place like Pebble Beach where they do test drives.
This car has the potential to become the most important car since the Model T. Tesla was created for this singular moment. It’s a pretty big deal.
They actually open on the bottom there when you cut the sticker on the bottom side of the image. Source - I used to work for McLaren.
I do know that there have been a few people that have approached Tesla asking if they could just buy a rolling chassis for coach building, but they’re not really interested in that. The company exists to get people into EVs, and acommodating the ultra-wealthy doesn’t really fit that purpose.
You say no other modern car has a chassis like this, but McLaren would like a word.
It sounds like something Torchinsky would come up with. I love it.
I’ve heard about it. I’m not holding my breath.
All the race cars, Formula One engines and racing programs in the world can’t divert from the fact that Honda offers the most boring line of cars in the USA today. I went to an event at the company’s US HQ in 2010 and one of the execs even apologized for the company’s lack of enthusiast cars - and guess what, they…
You guys should go to a K1 and do a Jalopnik video where you try out the new format. That’s what I would do.
It’s good looking enough. It’s just that it doesn’t feel like anything new. Styling wise, it’s another evolution of the recipe from the DB7. Which is fine. Great even. But it’s nothing I’ll get too excited about. At this point, I get as excited about this as I do the reveal of the new 911.
There’s scary I like (New Corvette Zo6), and scary where the car does things I don’t ask it to like pop the clutch on a gear change (like the Aventador) that I don’t like.
