Ah, I see now. True.

Yeah, it's clearly the only reason Sony is going out of their way to announce it.
Yo dawg, I heard you like consoles so I put a console on your console.
Well, one direction. PS1 games played on PS2. But fair point.
The “great iPhone 11 deal” from Best Buy is the exact same price as purchasing the phone directly from Apple. I just went through the Best Buy mobile phone purchase+trade process and literally every aspect of it is painful.

Has there yet been a new generation of consoles where the old gen’s controllers worked with the new games? I mean, backward compatibility is a relatively recent phenomenon (PS1/2 games working on the launch PS3?) and then the old controllers didn’t even connect, let alone work.
This issue was my main motivation to get a PS4 Pro. Highly annoying and very widespread.
My reaction to the headline was “well that’s not such a big deal oh wait they mean WITH the phone...”

If they start throwing in items that create a gameplay advantage or “time savers” to reduce grind (i.e., “buy this thing to make the game less shitty”), then there’s a problem.
Well, Microsoft is intentionally making the “next-gen” leap no big deal. Between Game Pass and backward compatibility, they are positioning as Xbox being a “platform” and not a specific piece of hardware. They even committed that all new games will work on Xbox One for the next two years.
Why is everything in this timeline broken?
Oh, you’re not wrong. Trumpstink will never, EVER wash off.
