it's more profitable for the insurance companies to get you paying for pills every month than a diaphragm every couple of years. That's why they're out of fashion.
It bums me out that women would think their vaginas are so messy and disgusting they wouldn't consider a diaphragm. As for putting it in, an "excuse me I need to freshen up" works. Also, I haven't met a guy who'd prefer a condom to a diaphragm.

I used a diaphragm for years! My (awful) previous gyno looked at me like I was crazy when I told her I wanted to try it, but I was like, leave me alone and measure me already! I loved it, but I always used lots of spermicide as well because I was paranoid. The pills made me not horny at all. So they were very…
No, use of Coke as BC was actually pretty common. It didn't work well, but people used it. Just like they used Lysol and other caustic agents. One of my undergraduate professors wrote a book on the history of birth control in the US, and it was a bit terrifying to tell you the truth. However, that book was the reason…
you may~
I do agree that doctors themselves (in my experience) seem to try and divert their patients away from diagrams and cervical caps. I don't really know why. They have a lower success rate, but if the patient has proved they can't tolerate hormonal forms, is a bad match (high blood pressure, etc), or just doesn't want…
I have had drs talk down to me about the diaphragm as well, so unethical, everybody should be allowed to make whatever choice they want. Also, my insurance wouldn't cover it and in NYC no duane reade/cvs even carry them. crazy.
I know there are women who get icked out, but honestly, If someone is so uncomfortable that they can't insert or remove a diagram, I'm surprised they're ok with inserting and removing a penis.
Christ, how judgmental. I know a handful of women who do the same. I now feel REALLY old, but at one point WAY after the 50s it was pretty common for women in their late 30s and all of their 40s until they were sure menopause had hit because of concerns about hormonal methods in "older" women. Like that's what…
I don't know why you (or others have made you) think it's weird or square- it's a perfectly good form of birth control- I've used one for years too.
We spend time picking out the right outfit and practicing our handshake, but it may be your physical attributes that most affect how you are perceived during a first impression.
That was my experience and I was bummed out because both my mom and sister did well on it. I would alternate no period then the never ending one. On top of that was the depression and stomach troubles.
Aww, you just made mine! Yay for Jezebel connections! This obviously something I care about, so thanks so much for donating!!
That was my preference before the bf got the vasectomy. My hormones fluctuated so much on the pill, I felt crazy.
Those people are stupid! The best BC is whatever BC works for you and that you'll use. Send this link to them next time they're judgmental. Their tax dollars (via USAID) are helping to fund development of this baby: http://www.path.org/projects/silcs…
Thank you!! That sounds delicious. I'm going to make same now. Good thing I'm Indian and already have those chilis in my "masala dabba."
Hahaha, I LOVE the grandma birth control stories! A while ago, someone else was talking on Jez about how her grandmother used a copper penny. I don't know if it was a true story, but if it was, grandma was a fucking genius.
Don't feel weird, I used one for a long time.. I was not good with pills and I never had a guy say "no I won't wait to get laid." Still used condoms though until me and my now husband got together.. I got better at taking pills on time so switched over, cause I needed the good side effects of the pill.. The week…
