I actually like this design a lot. The circles indicate the "sweet spot" to aim for, the grip is pretty cool, and the Smash coin on the bottom is also interesting branding. Also I guess the Skyloft stage is another floating platform stage? That's kind of boring.

I think it's the fluidity of the transformations. It's very organic, despite being mostly geometric, and it's easy to watch as a result.
