The Japanese title is "メビウス" which I assume is from "メビウスの帯" or in English "Mobius strip." Why they went with "Mevius" instead of "Mobius?" I'm guessing they thought it looked cooler.

I have also always loved The Giving Tree and for similar reasons. Except for me it wasn't the lack of happy ending. When I was a kid I didn't feel like anyone loved me in that whole and selfless way, the way the tree loved the boy. The tree's love was always so beautiful and moving to me. It still is.
