I was in the T15 stands, and from my vantage point one thing I really did like that I mentioned back in spring training at COTA was how varied the lines were by the drivers. When Power, Rossi, and Herta were running together all three of them were taking T13 through T15 drastically different. Power and Herta were

I live not far from the Northeast Corridor so I do consider the train an option depending on where I’m going. If I ever travel to DC, it’ll probably be by train since the travel time (especially on Acela) is probably similar to that of going by air.

With the current state of American metro areas, population density isn’t sufficient to sustain passenger railways.

the Ferrari F1 team’s estimated annual budget was $470 million compared to a top team budget of $15 million in IndyCar

My now-wife and I did Denver to San Francisco trip. We did it because we (I) had romanticized the idea of taking a train through the west. So many of your negatives listed here are true.

Without going into too many details, I saw an internal cost-benefit analysis prepared for the Federal Rail Admin during the early Obama admin years, right when the administration was hyping up high speed rail as a good use of economic stimulus dollars. Almost every proposed route outside BosWash would hemorrhage

“Yes, you can order beer and wine, which you may need, but it’s not going to make the food any better; it’ll just help you care a little less.”

Why do you deny science?

“There’s less rules than on planes, and nobody gets dragged off through the aisle like on a plane. People have more time to go nuts and do crazy things.”

Yes, taking the train required an extra day of travel time over airplanes.  Airplanes are a major reason why climate change will kill us all by 2030.  Isn’t a day of your life worth saving the planet?

You will look back with longing nostalgia at your Amtrak trip when you make the same journey in a Oxen-drawn covered wagon next spring. Pro-tip: pick up a couple of bags of lemons before the journey. Scurvy is a bitch.

You had the option - for about the same money or less - to drive a one-way premium rental car on an ~10 hour ride through some of the best road-tripping country the US has to offer.... And you took Amtrak?!?

Depends.

Yes. It is that bad. AWD at a minimum.

FWDs can be fun, too. But it’s a different kind of fun.

The first car I bought with my own money was a Nissan 240SX, followed by a Miata. Then I wrecked the Miata :( and then I owned a series of FWD cars, one of which was even fun (Acura RSX-S). Then 3 years ago I bought a Mustang.

I won’t say FWD is bad but, it is the least desirable of the drivetrain configurations given a choice.

For most people, and most driving, FWD is fine, if not better. For an enthusiast, FWD is a shitstain on the automotive landscape. Yes, even on (or especially on) enthusiast oriented vehicles.

Yeah, they fucking suck. That’s not to say some RWD cars don’t suck, but it comes down to personal preference. There’s one thing about FWD that is not a preference though; it’s an indisputable fact. FWD cars understeer on power. Period. There is no amount of tuning, or hardware upgrades, or even driving technique that

Yes, for anyone who cares about weight distribution, traction, and driving Dynamics, FWD is horrible. RWD is great. AWD is okay.
