I don't think a poll on Jalopnik will be an accurate representation of the population being able to properly operate a manual transmission. If your visiting Jal on a regular basis your most likely a auto-enthusiast and thus would have a much better chance of learning to drive a manual.

@electricworry: The problem with your logic is that this instance is not a free market. If I wanted to be a assembly line worker and NOT join the union how free am I to do that? Also, if the company wanted to hire an assembly line worker that isn't union and has no plans to be union how free are they?

@Doctor7474: Couldn't he have just called his insurance company to deal with this? It seems like a lot of work to go find your own council when the insurance co. has a team of them.

@redmac: Petition your representative to become a Right To Work state. I personally would have no problem with a Federal RTW initiative. If an individual worker doesn't want to join a union why should they be forced to?

@electricworry: Those people should be paid what they are worth, not what they deserve. Detroit is a ghost town partially because of the UAW and its "shakedown" tactics against businesses. I live in a Right to Work state and proud of it.
