The fundamental problem of so many governments that claimed to be Communist is the same fundamental problem we have here in America: Concentration of Power with no effective means of holding power accountable. Our elections aren’t free or fair. Our politicians (with very few exceptions) serve corporations regardless

Because they have a massive audience and the VP represents those Americans too. Besides its not like Fox News is any more pro-corporate than CNN or MSNBC

Everyone I’ve ever known to rock a Che Guevara shirt in high school had read DOZENS of history books in their free time and had thoughtful critiques of the curriculum offered us during history class. Any chance its actually YOU who doesn't know what they're talking about?

Castro’s “style of governance” has churned out some amazing doctors. Do you know much about Cuban doctors or the incredible humanitarian work they do internationally?

Read the Bell’s Wikipedia page; came away with the impression he’s following the Obama playbook of presenting himself as a progressive then undermining everything he claimed to support including people’s willingness to believe in others who actually are fighting for the things he ran on.

Everything I read on this guy’s Wikipedia page makes him look more and more like someone who’s “progressivism” is more marketing than conviction.

Value for who? The oil and logistics companies who see their profits skyrocket or the dudes coming home with permanent brain damage? Or maybe its the dudes who get raped by their superior officers - maybe their butts are the “value” in joining a branch?

You’re probably right but I think it’s a worthwhile thing for people to publicly demand of their local police department.

Hmmm - what if Antifa starts dressing up in camo kidnapping white supremacists in broad daylight?

The Russia bounty stuff is a lotta smoke with no fire.

Imagine the government gave everyone “journalism vouchers” they could spend to support local, ad-free newspapers of their choosing. Probably solve a lot of our media problems just by having a democratic system of funding news

I'm so excited to see The Root writing about this. I thought y'all hated Leftists.

It sets first principles. Next time the cops run protestors over, the workers can leverage the fact that they already asked Ford to stop supplying the fascists with deadly weapons to either make this demand again more aggressively or pressure them for something else the workers want.

I think you’re mistaken in your assertion that there are police departments in America who don’t employ thugs. There might be some cops in this country who aren’t thugs; but a whole PD that hasn’t got any thugs seems as unlikely as an oil spill that doesn’t kill any wildlife.

What if the fascist police just stopped getting new cars? Would that really be a bad thing?

They probably gonna have to sell everything in a few weeks when the USPS runs out of money and satisfies a long-time fantasy of the right wing death cult. Maybe call Congress to ask them to pass some emergency funding to keep te USPS up and running.

Yeah, maybe you should call your Congress person and tell them to pass some emergency funding for the post office before they go broke. It would suck to not be able to vote by mail in a pandemic because the Republicans finally killed the USPS

I think that seeking consistency in how the law is applied is a bit of a fool’s errand because I’m very cynical about courts. But I admire the clarity of your thinking and hope we can someday build a court system that lives up to your vision of what it should be.

Maybe just because Sawant is famous enough to be a hook for a story like this? Mosqueda seems like a badass in her own right though - definitely going to click on stories about either of them now.
