Not sure what your ankle issue is, so this could be no help, but squat shoes or putting 5 pound plates under your heels can help if it’s a mobility issue.
All true- also with squats especially there are a million ways to modify them to take strain off the problematic body parts (usually knees or ankles). I have a shitty ankle which makes it hard to get all the way down on a squat, but it’s still 95% as effective.
I agree that if squats or deads cause real pain when using correct form they should not be done. But, I read about a lot of people not wanting to try these exercises because they experience occasional pain in their lower back, knees, ect. I’m guessing a number of those people experience this pain because those parts…
Technically you’re right, with only these three, certain things like delts and lats would lag. But if you were somehow forced to do only three exercises, there’s no question in my mind that these are the most effective three to choose. Next up in priority would be overhead press and chin ups, in my opinion.
