Agreed. I used to (1980's) run a Corvair in autocross and time trials. The engine’s belt-driven cooling fan sucks up a considerable amount of horsepower that could otherwise be directed toward forward motion. A few guys perfected the technique of throwing the belt off during a run to recover that power for a minute

Chrysler Turbine. I can’t think of any other ‘concept’ car more memorable. Does it have to lose points because they let 50 loose on the road (and reclaimed all but 9, including Jay’s)

Sure, just the thing to slip by the whale watching tours...

That was my first thought too, and wondered whether they debated what colors to wear based on the details of their plan

WRX, like Miata, is the answer to a great many questions like this. It brought cheap, reliable rally car performance to the masses, in the preferred form of a commodious AWD wagon that doesn’t stop for snow or mud.

...with the ugliest snout ever grafted onto the front of a vehicle in a quest for more atmosphere...

you beat me to it

as a second generation Italian who grew up in an Italian neighborhood, I never heard the word before the show.

I would argue that Infiniti first monetized the SUV coupe, and as the former owner of an X4 appreciate the form and BMW’s rendering of it more than most ...unlike Mercedes Benz, whose caricatures gave me agita...visually and dynamically...

No earthquakes in NYC? Hard to believe given that I’ve experienced at least three in the area, two within 5 miles of the Bronx border.

The problem with any progressive proposal is that it will be watered down by compromise, evolve into a hybrid model with moderate taxes on both mileage and consumption, that will rise over time, and eventually drivers will be screwed into paying twice as much.

Quattro, Evo, Jensen FF....are all significant players in the AWD game, but the Model T...the small-block Chevy....the Beetle of AWD has to be the WRX. I bought one, you bought one, because for the first time we could afford the package.

My first impression was positive. this is a sweet looking vehicle - on the outside. But that screen is among the ugliest interior features I’ve ever seen, and would send me running from a dealer’s lot in shock if I hadn’t seen it here first. No dice at any price.

this is the first time I’ve ever wanted a Solara

I bought a (red) 1992 SE-R new, and parked it alongside my (red) 1972 BMW 2002. Despite driving wheels at opposite ends of the chassis, they were about as close in performance and character as any two cars I’ve known.

we had our chance with a beautiful Buick

Legend has it that the Grateful Dead’s sound system was designed and constructed by Augustus Owsley Stanley III, who was concurrently producing enough LSD to enlighten all of the west coast and even nine people in Idaho...

so what’s it cost to use their rails and sidings if you bring your own train? Maybe I’m wrong, but shouldn’t any old Duramax be able to handle the load of a single luxo cab railcar?

...and coughing up a few fragments of lung tissue while they exchange insurance info, photograph the damage and berate the other driver for following too close...

Anyone reading this who hasn’t got $59 million to spend (there must be a few beside me) has speculated on how they would spend that much if they stumbled into a lotto fortune, and I’d bet that every single one of them would rather have some cheap’ $2 million real estate filled with $59 million spent on cars and a Jay
