I find her whole-hearted embrace of very firm gender roles and faux-down home values shtick deeply creepy. Her lifestyle is held up as aspirational and it encompasses a lot of things completely antithetical to my own values: gender inequality, casual racism, conspicuous and excessive consumption, driving two miles

A lot of the grumbling comes because she’s selling this “aw shucks” rural lifestyle to people who have no clue that her version of rural life is so vastly different from the rural reality of most other farm/ranch wives. She’s inauthentic, and though she puts on a down home image she’s incredibly privileged (see above:

“Calm down” is another phrase men use to tell women that their emotions or countering viewpoints are well actually, wrong. “Calm down” is not a phrase that men regularly say to other men.

Not once did she never object to that, Gerald says.

It would be interesting if your wife viewed the situation the same way. I doubt it.

That’s one of my biggest pet peeves. People act like that we South Asians have a lot in common with Arabs, but we don’t! I sure as hell don’t relate to Arabs or Middle Easterns. We are NOT a homogenous group just because we are brown and just because many South Asians are Muslim.

You just *know* that the studio really wants a white guy. And that all this “we can’t find a guy after 2000 auditions” is just cover for when they announce that Aladdin will be played by Hugh Jackman.

Why are you casting an Indian to play an Arab role? Completely different people, customs, cultures, languages, religions....hypocrisy much?

Nothing happened after Sandyhook, so it’ll never happen.

One has to wonder what kind of level of horror will have to happen in order to get gun control? I really thought a class of murdered children should have swayed gun advocates, but sadly even that wasn’t enough. Even worse there were actually morons saying it didn’t even happen. I feel terrible for the victims in this

What every gender reveal party really needs is a good guy with a gun.

Nope, too soon.

Because it’s primal, it opens the door for all kinds of awfulness. People sometimes straight up torture their children because some charlatan plays in that instinct. I think it’s reasonable for society to step in to stop that.

I don’t think you can make a claim that you know what you would do. Some generic illness that you don’t actually have to watch your child suffer through? Sure it makes sense to keep trying things. In this case the medical community has done what can be done. There is no cure. And all this boy has to look forward to is

This is the world we live in now.

If you were a woman on a date with a clearly unstable man, you would honestly concern yourself with how that man makes his way home? Moreso than your own personal safety?

Also not so romantic when you consider they were 1) teenagers who 2) basically did an impulsive Las Vegas wedding a day or so after meeting for the first time and 3) killed themselves at the end.

Nothing says “years of wedded bliss” like referencing a story that ends with “and then they both died.”

Friendly English Lit reminder: the point of this quote is not that Juliet is wondering where Romeo is. Rather, the “wherefore art thou” is meant as “WHY are you Romeo Montague,” as in, “I really wish you were from literally any other family.”
