I think that the 109 vs Spitfire and Hurricane comparisons were pretty much understood not only in the Battle of Britain, but also in Africa, France (before and after), and elsewhere. I think what has been said here still holds, limitied time or not over England during the Battle of Britain.

This cover art alone gets this book on my wish list...

Just a word of caution about Heinlein’s Stranger in a Strange Land.

I have to admit that I have a soft spot for the old bird. Here’s an image of one that is on display at the Trenton RCAF base in Canada:

Agree, but the comparison to the Spitfire is of only minor importance. The Hurricane did most of the fighting in the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire made its mark there to be sure, but it was just gearing up into production. The Hurricane was far more numerous, and did most of the fighting. And did a pretty decent job

Thank you for that reference. Brought a smile to me on a crappy work day...

Wonderful article!

You can’t get all worried about what the zealots think- that’s a big giant ball of hate.
For me, I liked most of what the updates did. Not all, but most...
(And I have been hated for that...)

Really.
The boom and receptacle are designed to tow an aircraft.
In such a way that this story was no big deal.
You’re saying that.
Really?

i think people jumping off mountains are far more likely to die, I believe was his point...

and we’re bringing nukes.

almost looks like pleasant forest from above, instead of +40 K frozen hell

Awesome pic.

It had its drawbacks to be sure, but the F4 was a totally bad-ass looking beast!

‘cept they’re not designed to do that. either way, this is an amazing story...

is that cgi or a suit?

is that the pooper in there?

Yup; it’s not an easy thing.
And if we think that we can do it on the cheap, well, we shouldn’t...
