True. If your kid dies you’re entitled to process it in any way you wish, ghost photography and all. But, NO ONE should be allowed to charge that amount of cash for such lazy photoshopping.

The reason was that photography was really rare and expensive back then, so most people only hired photographers for special occasions, like weddings. So if a kid died young, it was entirely probable that the parents had never taken a photo of their kid when he was alive, so this was their last chance to get a photo…
I don’t think they loved in - I think in many cases those photos were the only images the family would have of the deceased and that’s why it was done. Still creepy, but a bit less sensational.
in this case, photographing the body of a child who was beaten to death might not look nearly as “adorable”.
