Man, this makes me feel old. I got a PS2 in spring of 2001 as a high school graduation gift.

I get motion sickness from games, but only certain ones. So far that has been restricted to Portal (just when you’re flinging too much around an area, not in general) and Mirror’s Edge (this one is in general). I’m not really a FPS fan though, so I don’t know if that genre in particular would be a problem for me.
There’s cheap food that’s healthier than poor people tend to eat. The problem with it though is it 1) requires more time to prepare and 2) sometimes requires learning at least some basic cooking skills.
We can also thank this for anime looking the way it is now. In every scene that there could possibly be any blinking, the whole screen is dimmed. I think the worst most recent show I watched with this was Magical Warfare (very meh, unfortunately). It’s a show about kids casting magical spells. Every time they cast…
Japanese people generally don’t go on vacations much, and definitely not for this long. So... yeah. LIES. :P
The only reason I’ve never stayed in a capsule hotel is because of the whole couples thing. So many capsule hotels are men only (I’m not a man), and ones that do let women stay have them being on completely different floors from the men. I like traveling with my husband. There’s also expense. 1 capsule can sometimes…
I don’t know why people even bothered to vote for #3. That’s pretty much guaranteed to happen. Voice acting in video games is considered a standard now. The only reason it wasn’t in the original is because voice acting was NOT the standard at the time. I remember when Metal Gear Solid came out for PS1 and actually…
I haven’t played any other Fire Emblem but Awakening, but I found the game rather mediocre. I still played it (though it took me several save games before I finally stuck with it enough to do so), but I don’t know. It felt like the story was too paper thin and not that interesting to me. The battle system was fun, but…
The easiest thing if you know zero Japanese is just to buy tickets at the door. They don’t sell out.
Claritin-D and any other allergy medication with pseudoephedrine in it is illegal in Japan. Regular Claritin is OK, but not the D variety.
Gonna drink some unagi (eel) soda with that?
I used to own some 3D printer made figures. They weren’t that great. That looks about as good as any Japanese PVC figure. It’s really amazing how 3D printer technology is evolving.
I think you get used to other sizes though. I have a 40” TV. That’s SMALL compared to most TVs in stores nowadays. However, when I was a kid, 40” seemed astronomically huge.
A catchcopy is what the Japanese call an advertising slogan. I don’t know why this one pops in my head, but for the US Marines, they have: “The few, the proud, the Marines.” They put that in their advertising. The Japanese would call that the catchcopy.
"Hajime, on the other hand, is a anime/gaming otaku who would rather blog than work—and in fact only works long enough to build up a nest egg so that he doesn't have to for the following few months. "
I really like the Another Story RPG. Probably the only thing bad about it is it's a bit unbalanced difficulty wise, so there's certain areas that require a bit of grinding. But otherwise it's like a really long episode of Sailor Moon - and the fact that you can have all of the inner and outer senshi in your party at…
Japanese vending machines are the reason I discovered hot corn potage (soup) in a can. The nice thing about corn potage is it's actually one of the more common vending machine items (in the winter anyway) so it's easy to find.
It's already coming out in Japan, but it's the usual ridiculous Japanese BluRay prices of about $70 per 2 episodes.
I'm glad this came out. I've always wanted to play this game, but the fact that I've gotten really into visual novels and adventure games the past 5-10 years has made me want to even more. I've been gaming since the late '80s, but you know how many LucasArts adventure games I've played? None. I think this is a problem…
That's just something I've never understood about the internet, and I've been on the internet since 1995-ish. I understand disagreeing with someone's opinion. I understand disagreeing so much that you might get angry at the person or feel like you dislike them for it. But death threats? Rape threats? Profane names?…
