Upstate. As long as you're not in a large city, its more than possible to live on that. (Large city=NYC, Syracuse, Albany, Buffalo)

250k on school?! That's a personal choice. My education cost 6k a semester, commuter, and is respected in my community as a great local university.

Different states have different regs I think. In NYS you can get hired w a bachelors, and have a certain number of years to get your masters, and some districts will help with the tuition.
