Another thing people need to realize:

The problem is that “pimp” is very hard to define, especially considering that most people trafficked for sex are trafficked by abusive partners. Assault is illegal, rape is illegal, and coercing someone to do sex work is illegal. Amnesty and sex worker’s rights groups very much want those things to remain illegal.

Pimping laws never work out as well as people think they will.

You’ve hit on the difference betweed legalization and decrim, and also the reason why sex workers support decrim rather than legalization.

Except Sweden’s trafficking rate has gone up since they criminalized clients and passed (overly broad, terrible) anti-pimping laws.

Victoria doesn’t have decrim. NSW does.

What are yours?

Blanket statement:

In NZ sex workers have won sexual harassment suits against brothel-owners, and clients have been prosecuted for removing condoms during sessions. I’ve never heard of those things happening anywhere else.

Germany doesn’t have decrim. Germany has legalization. Very different things, and if you don’t realize that you’re not qualified to go spouting off on it.

Not by anyone reputable, it’s not.

If there’s one thing I want people to get through their heads, it’s this: DECRIMINALIZATION IS GOOD FOR TRAFFICKING VICTIMS.

It’s been tried in Sweden and Norway and a few other countries with pretty bad results for sex workers. Decrim in New Zealand and parts of Australia has had very good results, which is why sex worker’s groups around the world support it.

I sprained my ankle on Sunday because I was texting while walking at night and I tripped on a dip in the sidewalk. :(

Lena Dunham: claiming feminism while putting her name on a petition asking Amnesty International to support policies that endanger people in the sex trade. So feminist!

The amount of weird stranger-bonding you experience when you wear weed clothes in public is very pleasant.

Thank you for having an open mind. Here’s another, although it’s a wordpress blog and not a more legit source, the author is someone who’s been quite active in the sex work tumblr community for years. In this post she talks about the ways in which decrim helped her while she was being trafficked.

Someone pushing laws that have no effect on her but catastrophic results for people who aren’t her = kinda suspicious. Add that to a long list of inconsistencies in her autobiography and that she works closely with the same organization that once ran the Magdalene Laundries. Rachel Moran is not a particularly

No, they don’t. You’re probably referring to that “average age of entry is 13” stat which has been very thoroughly debunked at this point. It’s so thoroughly debunked that you should probably side eye the hell out of any organization you see pushing it as truth. Either they legitimately don’t know anything about the

Amsterdam has legalization, not decriminalization. Big difference.
