Considering he wasn't a U.S citizen and was visiting from Africa, I'm gonna guess he couldn't have just called his primary care physician...

That's a really good point, and if my Facebook feed this morning is any indication, people are definitely panicking. The hospital connected to my city's university has volunteered to care for Ebola patients that are evacuated from West Africa, and so people here are completely losing their shit.

We have laws giving the government the authority to enforce quarantines, so what you're describing is not going to happen. If Nigeria has the medical and military infrastructure to put out an outbreak, we sure as fuck do.

As a current resident of the DFW area, I can say that the CDC has been (and probably still is?) down here and they supervised the biohazard clean up of the guy's apartment and probably the quarantine, too. The hospital totally fucked up, though, and so did the department that was supposed to keep people who came in

The irony is, it could end up an epidemic here in the US if people panic badly enough about the prospect of an Ebola epidemic here in the US. One of the biggest reasons Ebola is so bad in West Africa right now is because people were freaking out, refusing to cooperate with controlling local outbreaks, and just making

It's not just Texas, it's endemic to health care in the United States in general. Very few adults actually have primary care physicians anymore, so when they get sick they either go to an urgent care facility or the ER. If health care was affordable, or more people were willing to be general practitioners, this man

All of this ebola coverage has left me with a VERY poor opinion of the Texas health system and their hospitals. The CDC or the Dept of Health need to go in there and look at their policies and procedures because they have fucked up every step of the way here.

What's really baffling to me is how the Ebola outbreak in West Africa has been known for months now and up until a couple of days ago people were just being asked if they might have caught Ebola when entering other countries, including the US.

If my mother didn't have an abortion, I wouldn't exist.

I promise it is not. I checked the tags.

I love that the stock photo appears to be a letter written to Santa.

That was beautiful and heartbreaking and absolutely worth reading. I applaud this young lady for knowing what is best for her and stating it so clearly without apologizing for her decision.

The comments on the thread are really great because they run the entire range of experiences. And, fortunately, the mods stepped in and banned any arguments about abortion.

Sometimes it is an easy decision. Sometimes there are no emotions involved at all. I feel for women that struggle with it.

Holy shit.

My freshman year of college, I made the mistake of dating a very serious born-again Christian. (I was raised both Catholic and Unitarian Universalist, I'm not sure what he was doing in the relationship either.)

I'd say worse. A post it has taken effort to write. A text message includes things like "UR NT WAT I WNT IN A BF"

Is that better or worse than a post-it?

My 6th grade boyfriend broke up with me after I wrote him a lengthy note about how I thought it was time for us finally kiss. Neither of had kissed anyone before and I was a horny little child looking for a way to do some making-out. He was clearly less interested is doing the deed because he sent me a note back
