AV Club is good for deep analysis of themes and larger meanings of entertainment, but they often miss the boat on shows and movies that are just pure fun. According to AV Club reviewers and commenters, Jurassic World was the worst movie of the last 30 years, instead of harmless fun.

That stinks. Looks like I’ll be going to AV Club or wherever they do recaps. I saw Bricken’s recap of Arrow and it made me sad that they aren’t even allowing them to make it a more than a few paragraphs long.

This is at least part of why I’ve checked the page so much less in the last few weeks. The recaps weren’t great because they were recaps - I know what went on during the show that I watched. The recaps were great because I liked the writing so darned much. I’m sure that Gawker wants there to be more substantive…

Well, boo. Recaps were my favorite thing about io9. Getting the chance to discuss the previous night’s shows with everyone. I guess we can still do them on observation deck. I volunteer to do Gotham. For one thing, I actually like the damn show. And if no one else wants to do Supernatural, I’ll do that one too.

WOW. Well THAT’S some horseshit right there. Guess I’ll have to start reading io9 less and Cool_Breeze’s kinja more; that dude does THU BEST recaps on the site, bar none.

They’re phasing out recaps,and will only be doing them for the highest rated shows. They’ve said blurbs like this is the best we’ll get for most shows.
