You could definitely feel the cuts in some parts of it, where they slashed it down to a brief 105 minutes to improve the pacing. The middle especially feels a bit sloppy, although it tightens up in the third act.

It was a fun film. Entertaining main cast with a good rapport, although Teyonah Parris felt a bit stiff with them at first and Brie Larson kind of just has an understated affect as an actress (she reminds me of Jennifer Lawrence in these roles).
Yeah, all of the character stuff was great, some of the best in a Marvel film. All of the capital-P Plot stuff was incredibly underbaked.
As much as I’m a fan of kitties & Kamla Khan, it’s just not marvelous enough to be one of my favorite MCU entries.
I don’t think anyone was confused that this was a Captain Marvel movie. I think the basic premise of this movie was misguided. Captain Marvel did not resonate with audiences that much in her first outing. Pairing her with two other heroes seemed to be an attempt to generate some excitement for a second appearance, but…
It feels like they panicked and cut too much. The core trio is great together.
They are almost certainly going to resolve everything and merge the different universes together in Secret Wars.
But the right wing was already mobilized to hate the movie, before it ever even cameout.
I literally saw someone come across my feed from haters saying that this movie should be boycotted because Kamala Khan is Palestinian(Ron Howard voice She isn’t) Which is dumb on so many levels that I can’t even comprehend it.
The title is meaningless. Simply no one cares. And the incels who were the backbone of this entire Marvel thing have checked out.
*Captains Marvel
Fuck, in the parlance of our times, the haters. I saw it tonight, and I enjoyed the shit out of it. Kamala is an ever-spinning dynamo of fun, and the other two bounce off her with aplomb. Plus: cats, cats, cats!
Really, how long is Marvel going to keep doing this thing that gets press every time they do it?
Is it really any different to teasing Thanos and the Infinity Stones, which Marvel was doing all throughout the original films? I imagine there are some big plans to have the X-Men involved in an upcoming multiversal war, and if the groundwork weren’t laid I’m sure the AV Club would write some kind of “Where the hell…
Just saw it, and I would disagree with those critics. There is a lot of solid and often fun interaction between the leads. Yes, the film sets up some more MCU projects. But at least there’s no Kang cameos. I would agree with the critics who point out that the antagonist isn’t very fleshed out. But this is a solid B+…
Yeah, same here. I really don’t understand why so many writers seem to want to play both sides of this, catering to the incel crowd for clicks no matter what actually happens in the real world.
“Critics have hit The Marvels hard for burying its three engaging leads beneath a lot of general MCU business”
Chrysler has a CEO? Who does what, exactly? Sells Voyagers to Hertz? Is she only part-time or something? No hate to Christine at all, but I can’t think of a single brand except maybe Lancia that has less going on.
I always thought this was a song that a 15 yr old girl singing in a mall would write. Turns out it was grown men originally.
Any popular song that feels like the definitive version of the song should appear on this list. Case in point:
