Yup, I drive the 200 20v quattro avant primarily in winter and the E39 primarily in late spring, summer, and early fall. But I do drive both all year round to keep the juices flowing.

E39s have close to 50/50 weight distribution. I have driven my 540i/6 through 2 winters for personal use (I commuted with a company truck) and it was decent on skinny snow tires... but I also have a 3.15:1 LSD from an M5 so that helps.

I blame most Americans... They want everything to be fatter and stupider, and for less money.

FWD (save for a small handful of examples like the Focus ST) pretty much just sucks for everything. When the tires have to both steer and apply power... both always suffer.

The old/current VAG 3.6 is a narrow angle VR engine. I assume the slapped two turbos on that.

If BMW was able to make 1200-1400 hp from a 1.5L 4 banger in the 80's (M12/13), I'm sure some Arabs with a butt load of moola could make some insane 1 off v16 that makes close to 5000 hp. These guys are building 1500+ hp Nissan patrols for sand racing.

yup, 9, 8, 7, 6, and 5 are quite lame in comparison. To be fair 20v cars usually sell between $1500 and $3000 but nice examples for less can be found if you are patient. LOL, I'm a CTian and I used to LOVE going to or even by this area. There were some pretty cools cars there, towards the end there were quite a few exposed spots.

What about T44 audi's? AKA 5000 and 200. They are fairly light for their size, turbo power, all wheel drive with locking center and rear diffs for the 5000 and a Torsen center with a locking rear for the 200. The 5 cylinders (especially the 1991 20v) are capable of making big power and the drivetrains can handle it. a

I really liked riding in the E-class diesels throughout Europe. Comfortable, torquey, quiet.

For all the reasons I listed above, the BlueSport Roadster seems to check of a surprising many of the boxes that enthusiasts would list as requirements for their dream car. An affordable, mid-engine Boxster-fighting sports car with a diesel engine? Why the hell not, right?

They were limited by their stock, crappy bias-ply tires, put a set of slicks on almost any big block powered car built before 1971 and it will likely get into the 12s with little issue.
