In 3 years of ownership, my Ram 1500 has had no problems at all, while in 1 year of ownership my RAV4 needed brakes, a battery, an AC compressor and a brake booster. When the VVTi started making noise at startup I got rid of it.

That’s mot really how tax ‘write offs’ work. Buying something and then selling it at a loss means you save on paying taxes. But taxes aren’t 100%. So if you lose 100k, and save 20k in taxes (number used for illustrative purposes) you’ve still lost 80k.
