Read through the thread:

Thank you thank you thank you. I’m not Beyonce’s biggest fan or anything but I like to defend her on this fucking site.

Thank you so much for this comment! I’m not a Beyoncé stan either, but I do find myself getting quite irritated every time I read comments like that of the original poster. It just strikes me as racist that every time anything positive is written about her on this site, white women pile on to call her mediocre and

Exactly. If songwriters were excellent musicians or vocalists, they’d be performing their own work. We’re supposed to pretend the performance isn’t important in order to maintain the illusion that a woman of color is being unfairly enriched by doing something few people can do as well as she can?

Yeah, and I’m sure someone, somewhere, would be giving these songwriters the time of the day or the royalties they accrue if no one was around to arrange, perform, produce, record, edit and mix, distribute the recordings, and then tour on the strength of them. *jerk off motion*

I recently rewatched the spoof of Beyonce’s “Pretty Hurts” video - titled “Creepin’ Hurts” (it was the first thing I ever saw Tiffany Haddish in and I went back to watch it post-SNL) - and it occurred to me that the vocals by the singer in the spoof are no more/less mediocre than Beyonce’s - her voice really isn’t

Whitney wrote none of her songs. Diana wrote none of her songs. Aretha wrote few of her songs. Barbra wrote few of her songs. Ella, Sarah, Dinah, Dusty: none wrote their songs. Being a great singer/performer is more than enough.

I was surprised to see Britney Spears at #8, but there really are not THAT many high earning female musicians. I think it all depends on how many of them are active in any particular year. Madonna made $75mm in 2016, but I suppose was less active in 2017, so didn’t make the list this year. I wonder how much Paul

Beyonce is a top tier entertainer and a brilliant businesswoman. and she has the receipts and rep to prove it. What she is NOT is a top tier singer, and I wish tone-deaf people would quit claiming she some sort of vocal savant.

Bey has very little involvement in the creation of her music. Sia said to Rolling Stone that Bey hires the top songwriters and the top producers and makes them all share a house while they create Bey’s music for her. Sia used the word “Frankenstein” to describe the process.

I’m not going to disagree with that. For the record, I don’t entirely dislike her music, but I do think she is unduly lauded as a genius. She’s a great performer but she doesn’t write her own songs and the whole business of her not crediting others where credit is due is in poor taste. But y’know, that’s just like my

I’m not a huge Beyoncé fan (she wasn’t my favorite in Destiny’s Child and she isn’t my favorite Knowles) but she is certainly as or more deserving than anyone else in the top 5.

That must be because of her Vegas residency? Not to hate on Britney I’m just surprised she’s so high on the list (unless she’s released new music and I’ve been living under a rock).

I’ve yet to hear any of her recent songs played on the radio.

At the risk of keeping myself grey for all eternity, Beyonce really isn’t as great as everyone thinks she is. I’m always here for POC getting their check, but she’s not the be(y)-all and end-all.

The only good news is that trump is aging fast & horribly in office, as well as getting fatter. With any luck he’ll die soon, or have a massive stroke that will render him useless, not that he isn’t already.

The chutzpah. I cut and paste a transcript of his remarks on then-18yr old Lindsay Lohan (Howard Stern interview; don’t look it up unless you’re near a washroom) in a comment on an Instagram post but Instagram refused to publish the post cause it was deemed to violate their ‘safe’ community guidelines. This man, the
