Custom desktops are very cool. The problem is that I’m always working and never see it except for a few seconds at startup and shutdown. It’s not like I sit around monitoring changes to the temperature. Maybe if I had some spare monitors I could hang them on the wall and admire them like that.

It absolutely, 100% has to do with pedestrian crash ratings, and nothing to do with aero. Crash/safety regulations are one of the biggest drivers of the “normalization” of car looks; there are only so many ways you can make unobjectionable shapes when you have so many dimensional constraints.
Like the other posters, I’m not an expert but I think it’s because if it was too sharp, it might pierce the air and cause small sonic booms which would make the car sort of annoying. Imagine driving and having your car go boom, boom, boom all the time.
The only answer I can come up with is pedestrian collision requirements. But I don’t know those specific requirements.
