Wait, $3k in repair costs / $12k in total car costs is bankruptcy? If it’s a regular stream of $3k repair bills then sure. But this just seems like a one-time bundle of deferred maintenance that needs to be done on any older European car bought from a stranger.

It is worth noting that the fuel economy standards that the EPA and NHTSA are already using on heavy duty trucks are based on gallons per 100 miles. Test procedure is the same as CAFE (FTP-75 for city, HWFET for highway), but with half of payload rather than a fixed 300 lbs.

I drove across country (Philly to LA) in an ‘85 Civic three-door with a friend once. The only issue we had was the friend constantly forgetting the car had a fifth gear and winding it out in fourth on the highway.

OMG, really??? they say Prius is an option for replacing the Golf?! What a joke, other than fuel economy there is zero comparision. The Prius roles like a bowling ball on corners while the Golf hugs the corners. The Prius looks like a car from Mars, while the Golf looks like it was designed by Picaso. And comparing

Can’t fit in the Fiesta? Maybe it’s time to cut out the DQ
