I guess the answer has to be that streamlining production is cheaper than individual options, but that seems strange to me.  Whatever works I guess.

In related news, it appears that Tesla will OTA rear heat seat function in base level Model 3s. Which is...crazy, because that means that all Model 3s have that function built in, just not turned on? I hear they do this for their premium audio as well - the base models have all the speakers, just not used.
