I disagree. There are many professional drivers who can’t turn a wrench but would you to shame on a track. Just because you can use a miter gauge doesn’t mean you can drive. 

Not sure I see a parallel between using tools and being a capable driver. But even a capable driver can’t compensate for a shitbox that comes apart at speed.
