So, I guess Lexy Thomas just learned what those mystery charges on her husband’s credit card are for.

I misspoke with the ice comment. My bad. Our ground freezes early here and then our daytime temps fluctuate. Our roads can be icy from 7C and down.
It’s not just snow, though. Anytime the temp drops below +7C (45F) dedicated winter tires are better. The rubber is formulated for cold temps. Below these temps, ice begins to form on pavement. Winter tires will turn and stop better, all winter long, than all seasons due to the myriad little cuts (sipes) in the tread.…
It was a fun car to learn to drive in. It had a very forgiving clutch so getting it going came really easily to me. The overdrive button made you feel like you were engaging something special (this was 1986, pre-internet, pre-smart phone, and pre-SNES). We weren’t hard to impress.
That’s what was explained to me by my dad when I was learning to drive. The transmission had to be in fourth gear to engage the overdrive because there wasn’t enough - he said power - to use it in lower gears.
What if you’re from a jurisdiction that has non-binary options on the drivers’ license? Last year the Province of British Columbia laid out the procedure to change your gender designation from one of the binary options to one that reflects your reality; non-binary, trans, two spirit etc...
I just fucking can’t, with these culture-war fuckwads. Why is it so goddamn hard to treat people with even the shred of basic decency?
I had no idea it could be engaged in lower gears to effectively make an eight-speed transmission. Thanks for the link and the info.
This is a 1978 Volvo 240/245 shifter with electric overdrive switch. This was for a four-speed manual with electric overdrive. Shift as normal up to about 80 km/h, then if you were highway cruising you’d flick the switch and the transmission would shift to overdrive - no clutch needed. Why electric overdrive instead…
I’m NP all day on this, with a disclosure. I have a friend who is a Subie mechanic and some good contacts with an excellent Subaru engine building shop. If they clear it, I’m all day in on this.
One of the (very) few reasons that living in Alberta is tolerable; we don’t have front plates.
This was an extremely well-written and thoughtful comment. Great choice.
Oh. Hell. No.
Just stay home is good advice if you live in a place that gets “sporadic” winter. Some of us live with five months of real winter: temps continually between -8C and -40C, snow at least once/week. Staying home isn’t an option.
Hey, thanks for this. It’s nice to see COTD come back; honoured to be included.
Liftees smoking pot????? Well I would be shocked, just shocked I tell you.
The really stupid thing, is that hill management wouldn’t have cared. They’d much rather have someone download, than try to ski out when they’re tired etc... especially if sweep had started. They don’t want a full blown search for a missing skier.
My mistake - apologies. I thought you meant that letting her download was a mistake.
Potentially. Everyone would know the seller. The buyer could ask for anonymity and do just that. Put the car in a trailer, move it to an undisclosed location and poof... the car disappears.
Exactly.
