Obama has declined in the polls lately, particularly among liberal Democrats. Saddling up next to Bachmann probably did not help. I think it is fairly naive to think politics is not playing at least some role here.

I didn't want to take it there, because I figured it'd be more agreeable to focus on ancient history, but I agree with you 100%. I wrote my freshman year paper in 2003 on the PATRIOT Act. It's scary what they can do to us now.

It never ceases to amaze me the wide breadth of people who were caught up in HUAC investigations or similar FBI "loyalty investigations". Such a dark chapter in American history.
