I don’t remember the idea of ST being considered satire until the last 5 to 10 years, as film hipster contrarian takes encouraging you to re-watch it as a satire. I do remember walking out of the theater and everybody was kind of bummed out and puzzled, murmuring “what the fuck was that?”

Yeah it’s absurd but satire should have something to say, right? How is ST critical of humanity and fascistic militarization, when that’s how the protagonists won the war on the bugs? 

I’ve heard this argument before, but satire is meant to criticize something. What is being criticized in ST?
