I am blessed to know many service members who are wonderful, but every time someone comes in and yells at me because my store doesn’t offer a military discount (“MY HUSBAND PUTS HIS LIFE ON THE LINE FOR YOUR COUNTRY AND YOU CAN’T GIVE ME 10% OFF MY DRESS?”) I understand, with deep, deep clarity, why they are hated

Because they don’t know anything about it?

That made me Laugh Out Loud. Love your use of metaphor.

Gee, I wonder why people who work and live in heavily military communities often have an unfavorable opinion of the average servicemember, while people 500 miles from the nearest base whose closest relation to the military is their stepbrother’s nephew who did 18 months in the Coast Guard and got an other than

She was never as iconic as others on SNL, but she had signature characters. She has also had a fantastic post SNL career. Interesting character parts, great voice acting in animated movies, and some really powerful performance and lit work. I don’t know that I’d say she “didn’t find success.”

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about how much Tina Fey really changed the game at SNL. Before her, it was a total boys’ club—now most of its breakout stars are women. Loved Julia on the show, and I’m glad that she’s able to be honest about her experiences without being bitter.

If anyone not heard her one-woman show “Letting go of God,” do yourself a favor and go listen NOW (you can hear the whole thing in full on Youtube).

I think that it is plausible that there are a lot of normal people whose sex fantasies are sick as fuck and they spend their entire lives keeping it to themselves.

I can’t speak for this guy because I don’t know the inside of his head or how far he was actually planning to go, but NO. You’re wrong. Full stop. There are millions of people who are turned on by [pick your violent kink/fetish] who would NEVER actually harm or violate another person. And would never want to. If you

I don’t either. To be clear though this wasn’t just generic fantasy talk. He had specific victims in mind with specific plans for kidnap, rape, torture, and murder. I don’t know the answer in this case. However, I think folks are going easy on him because of the sexual fantasy angle. No one calls it a thought crime

Yes... And he was found guilty of that and sentenced to time served. I saw this at the Tribeca Film Festival and I’m STILL torn on how I feel about this. But, there are tidbits in the doc that give you a bit more to think about on the “maybe he wasn’t really going to do it” side... That said... I was impressed that

Wasn’t part of the reason he was convicted because he used a database illegally to find women that were the subject of his fantasies? Was that misreported? Or was his using the database not illegal in itself but just demonstrated a more substantial step toward a crime so they could get him for conspiracy? Either way,

We all deserve to date without the fear of being killed and eaten, that is for damn sure

I agree with the legal points she’s trying to make. But this:

Some of the Match.com laughter made me a bit uneasy, though, because I think everyone deserves to date.

Why does everyone deserve to date? I’m 100% in favor of preemptively ruling dangerous-seeming people out of your dating pool.
