I thing is, T’Challa and Storm have nothing in common. And, when they did get married in the comics, Storm lost any and all identity as her own character and was basically joined at the hip to Black Panther supporting cast. Frankly the annulment of their marriage was the best thing that could happen for Storm.

Actually in the comics, Shuri was second in line for the throne of Wakanda and even became Queen when T’Challa abdicated the throne at one point, thought she was later killed when Namor’s Cabal attacked Wakanda who were trying to prevent the incoming colliding alternate Earths.
