Console makers definitely get a discount but even then, pricing is still an issue which is why they go with AMD instead of Nvidia. The PS5/XSX GPUs are roughly equivalent to a 2080, not a 3070.

Nintendo specifically used Nvidia’s mobile tech for Switch because it’s effectively a tablet. We already know that AMD tech is used for PS5 and Xbox and AMD still doesn’t have hardware-based upscaling so I’m not sure how releasing a year later would have resulted in hardware-based upscaling for consoles.

If the hardware is profitable, they’ll continue to make it. It provides another entry point into the Xbox ecosystem (and more specifically, Game Pass) so if the hardware makes money and gets people to spend money in the ecosystem, that’s a win-win for MS.

No clue about TLG, I never got very far due to a strong aversion to 30 FPS. Seemed pretty solid from the 20 minutes or so I put into it. If Sony ever uncaps the framerate (or ports it to PC), I’ll give it another shot.

I’ll be happy if they just release their first-party games on PC day one instead of 2-3 years later.
