As far as I’m aware there’s still basically no reason for the Germans to build a navy since you can’t beat the English without losing to the Soviets and you can’t starve them into submission with submarines. So if you skip out on all that then it’ll probably actually be fine.

I think you can build a reasonable storyline where the US goes fascist. The New Deal fails and America turns to a strongman who promises them Italian-style success for instance.  However it would probably be at least as controversial as a Confederate story.

It will be interesting to see how fuel will change the Eastern Front, given that that was one of the biggest problems the Germans had IRL.

The thing is that in this case they CAN do that, because they have a somewhat fixed narrative arc. The story was mostly done already and the end was definitely coming before the first camera turned on. For MOST shows they have literally no idea how long they have.
