I swear, everything I read about this game makes it sound fantastic! Based on general comments, I skipped 2 (after loving the first one), and had largely written off 3, until the reviews started coming in. Now I've been through DA Keep, and I'm ready to continue the story.

I found it "gross" as well because you pretty much can't 100% the game unless you download some apps and play it. With all the crashing, stuttering, freezing, glitching and cockblocking 100% game completion, I pretty much lose interest in AC franchise.
Fungi reproduce via spores, so their plumbing is going to be a lot different than the sexual dimorphism seen in a lot of mammals. I'd suspect that the gendered appearance is more of a cultural adaptation.
